Mr. Gewirtz currently leads the Networking and Communications practice of Market Strategy Group where he consults on strategy, market trends, operational processes and metrics, while concentrating on the financial performance of networking and telecommunications companies.
Mr. Gewirtz entered consulting following a distinguished career at AT&T where he held a variety of senior positions and brought unique insight and practice to the intersection of technology, financial performance and markets. He built and then managed the AT&T Technical Marketing organization, a group which garnered industry leading CVA scores while maintaining a balanced focus on sales results and technical prowess. The group grew to over 600 professionals, and was instrumental in closing over $1.5B in net-new annual revenue supporting AT&T’s global enterprise and business markets sales force.
Mr. Gewirtz also helped launch AT&T’s entry into the Managed Network Solutions business. Under his leadership, the MNS unit that provided outasking services to large and mid-sized corporate customers became the market leader in the management of corporate backbone networks, growing at 50% above the market rate. He built a business with 1200 associates that managed over 300 customer networks billing in excess of $500M/year.
Mr. Gewirtz also played a critical role in AT&T’s successful entry into IP networking. In the late 1990s, while he had product and marketing responsibility for building and managing AT&T’s IP network backbone, he was the lead executive for the acquisition of the IBM global network, a $5B acquisition. He was then responsible for the integration of IBM’s global network AT&T’s network and offerings.
Mr. Gewirtz left AT&T as the Vice President and CTO of AT&T Business Services, the $28B unit that sells communications services and solutions to the Business segment. Beyond his technology role, he developed analytic models to quantify the long term financial value of different classes of customers and segments and link investments to those values.
As a consultant, Mr. Gewirtz's clients include investment banks, private equity funds, hedge funds, leading product and services companies, larger consultancies as well as start-ups. He has provided thought leadership on acquisition synergies as well as due diligence guidance for a number of key transactions.
